Couple Shower

Yes, I know you are all waiting for this post… 😛

In my previous post, I said I didn’t know there was more to come. Indeed, I didn’t expect that bible study had been changed to a couple shower for us. Surprise!!! 🙂 Just a few days before, the following conversation happened between me and CG :

CG :  Hey, do you think they are planning a couple shower for us?

PG :  Nah, ML once said that because you expect a couple shower, so therefore don’t have.

CG : But it’s weird, why T suddenly needs to bring bible study (bs) forward?

PG :  Nah, it’s homecoming at her workplace

I’ve always prided myself on having accurate gut feel, but this time, I was totally wrong!!! We went for bs as per normal and started with a word of prayer. Before praying, J read a passage and it was from Eph 4 : 22-30. I felt quite weird that J was reading this passage but never mind. After reading the passage, J’s prayer was for us to love our spouse. That was even more weird because we were supposed to study Acts! And while praying, I could hear A’s footsteps walking past me. This was suspicious too, cos A was supposed to be sitting behind me. I remember thinking, “Why is A walking around as we are praying?”

And when we opened our eyes, lo and behold, we were on candid camera! A was in front of us, holding a videocam and J said, “Today is Couple Shower!” And my immediate response was “I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!”

To cut the long story short, we were blindfolded and driven to Station 1 – Kembangan MRT Station. There we had to sing and raise $5 for our wedding. 😛 We were given a cardboard and some kids’ toys, together with rafia string and markers. CG wrote on the cardboard, “We need to raise $5 to get married. Please help…” 😛 Then we tried to approach passer-bys to hear us sing. But oh well, this is Singapore, the passer-bys just read our cardboard (read : KPO) and went off (read : siam!). It was difficult just trying to get them to stop to listen, don’t mention about the fund-raising… We decided to cross over to the other side of the MRT station where there was a guy standing around. Managed to raise $0.80 from this guy by singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Shortly after we approached a Caucasian and raised another $1, also by singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Thank God our dear station masters agreed to let us off after 2 “performances”. 😛

Station 2 – park next to Kembangan MRT Station. At this station, CG was supposed to execute commands given by me. And the commands had to be given in Malay! Oh my, it was not easy! But I must say, CG was good. He was very sporting and knew what actions to do so that we could accomplish the task fast. 🙂

Station 3 – Airport. The route to Station 3 was ardous. We were blindfolded and sitting in the rear passenger seats of A’s car. I was saying that we were like kidnapped hostages. 😛 Along the way, we had a reflection time and talked about the learning points of Stations 1 and 2. These were our answers :

1.  Don’t trust anyone.

2.  Don’t be helpful.

3.  Be cynical.

4.  Always trust your own instincts

5.  Don’t trust PG (from CG)

Hahaha…

Well, I said that the route to Station 3 was ardous because we were blindfolded and walked a long long way. Finally, when we took off our blindfolds, we were at Swensens at Terminal 2. Thank God we were blindfolded and no one could see how we looked like! 😛 At Station 3, CG was supposed to propose using all the words in a list. And examples of some of the words were “nit-picking”, “fat”, “alcohol”, “iphone”, “kitchen”, “miserable”, “never-ending” etc. And at the end of the “proposal”, CG was supposed to go on his knees and help me put on bedroom slippers! So like Cinderella! 🙂 I must say that CG did a very good job on his second attempt, he managed to string all the words together and form a touching “proposal”. 🙂

After completing such difficult tasks, finally we had the chance to sit at Swensens to enjoy ice-cream. Then the story behind the planning unfoils… Apparently, after bs the week before, everyone went back to T’s house for the “secret conference”! And both CG and I happy happy went home, thinking that everyone had something to settle. And we met again at about 11.30pm for supper, not knowing that a conspiracy was in the making! :)  And from what we heard, the “conference” went global, stretching from Australia to China. Inputs were given from different parts of the world, and the Australian “delegate” got so excited that he even called back for this! 🙂

Well, to set things right, the learning points for each station :

1.  Station 1 – As a couple, you would have to do things together, through “thickness and thinness”. 😛

2.  Station 2 – Although the husband is the head of the household, the wife is the neck! (I like this one!  :P)

3.  Station 3 – If you didn’t do something right the first time, try again and again. 🙂

I must say that we had great fun at the stations. And I think I really want to thank the cell group for planning all these “meaningful tasks with learning points”. 🙂 And at the end, every couple shared a tip or two with us :

A and CE : Always look to the Lord in everything and he will guide the both of you.

MY and ML : Eph 4 : 22-30. It may not be easy for the wife to always submit and the husband to always love the wife. But this is what the bible has taught us and it certainly makes a lot of sense.

J and T :  Marriage is not going to be easy. As said in Col 4 : 6, always be mindful of your words to your spouses, especially during stressful periods or in the mornings.

C : Continue to pray and continue to commit to the Lord and He will always be with the both of you.

Thank you so much, dear pals! We will certainly remember this couple shower. 🙂
