Jesus loves the little children…

“Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world…”  This was a song that I used to sing when I was in kindergarten. At that time, I did not really understand what the lyrics meant, I merely sang it because I liked the song.

However, I was greatly touched by the message today. And it brought back memories of this song. The speaker for today, was someone who was involved in the prison ministry. He has done much for the prisoners and their families. When he related about all the little children of the prisoners, I teared. He talked about him liking children, but it was during the course of his work, that he realised that God loved every child. Every child was so precious to God. God loves them so much that He knows everything about them, their lives, their destiny, their everything.

I would say I am also someone who likes children. I find myself always being drawn to little children and I am most willing to spend time to play or sing nursery rhymes with them. CG calls me the “babysitter”. 😛 Perhaps that explains the reason for my job.

Through today’s message, I felt God speaking to me. I felt God asking me if I have done enough for the children I come into contact with. I felt God asking me if I am giving my all for the children whom He has placed in my life. I must confess that it is not always the case. I know that there is so much more that I can do and so much more that I must do. Now I pray that God will show me the way, show me what He wants me to do for the children.

The second part of the service was a short video clip on little kids talking about their fathers. I really cried when I saw that clip. These are innocent little children, saying their heartfelt thoughts. They were asked what they would like their fathers to do and what they would like their fathers to not do. Most children wanted their fathers to spend more time with them and scold them less. As I watched the clip, I told God, “God, I want my father to be alive.”

Ever since 2006, the topic of fathers never fail to bring a tear to my eye. My father may not have been perfect, but to me, he was the best father. He travelled a lot due to the nature of his work, but he made it a point to only travel from Mondays to Fridays, so that he could be with the family during weekends. When he was abroad, he would call back every night, just to speak to my brother and I for 5 minutes. In everything I do, I knew I could always count on my dad to support me.  Even though he was very ill towards the end, he made sure that everything was well taken care of. He wanted the least disruptions to my mum’s, my brother’s and my lives. He wanted to make sure that we could still get by comfortably even though he was not around. I will always remember him telling me, that he wants us to be strong and live on, even after he is gone. And because I have promised him that I will be strong, I will keep my promise. 🙂

I must say that I’m thankful. I’m thankful for having a dad like him. I’m thankful for the years I spent with my dad. I’m thankful for all the preparations he made so that our lives would still be good. I’m thankful for my Heavenly Father. I’m thankful for all the blessings that my Heavenly Father gave me. I’m thankful, very very thankful.
